Help with specific types of content
Browser type and compatibility
The Department of Justice attempts to provide content that is compatible with as many browsers and computer types as possible. As well as the regular pages and graphics, you will find that the Cameras Save Lives web pages sometimes contain JavaScript, Java, PDF and Excel files
Some browsers, and some older versions of browsers, can't use JavaScript, or may not understand newer versions of JavaScript. Java is used to create small programs called "applets" which run inside your browser. Not all browsers can use Java, and some Macintosh computers require Java to be installed on the computer and not in the browser.
Portable Document Format (PDF) files
To view or print PDF files, you will need Adobe Acrobat® Reader installed on your computer. Acrobat® Reader can be downloaded from the Adobe website.
Microsoft Excel (XLS) files
To view Excel files you will need Microsoft Excel installed on your computer, or you can download the Microsoft Excel Viewer from the Microsoft website.
Help with printing
You can print any page on this site by:
- clicking on the ‘print’ link or icon which is on the top right of every page above the body content
- using the print function in your browser. For example, in Internet Explorer this can be done using the print icon on the standard toolbar at the top of the page, or by selecting File > Print from the drop down menus
- using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl/Cmd+P.
This site has been designed so that when you print a page, the printout will show the primary page content only and will not include the banner, navigation menus, related links or page footer.
Help with search
All content on this site can be accessed using the search function. The search box is located in the top right hand corner of every page. The search engine searches all page content as well as the content of all attached documents.
Search results
Search results display according to their relevance to the search keywords used. The document format or file type is indicated by the icon to the left of the title of each result. The icon for a web page is an Internet Explorer icon, PDF documents are represented by an Adobe Acrobat icon, and Microsoft Office documents are represented by their standard icons such as Word or Excel.
If your initial search query does not bring the results you want, you can:
- change the sort order of the results to sort alphabetically, by the date created or date modified
- enter another keyword to refine your search and limit the amount of results displayed
- select a similar search term from the 'Also Searching' section of the navigation to refocus your search
- select a subject or content type to limit the amount of results displayed
- use the slider bars to limit the results to content published or modified in a particular date range.
Please note that you will need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser in order to view some of the functionality on the search screen.
