Official warnings vs fines
This data shows the number of infringements issued by Victoria Police for on-the-spot offences, traffic camera offences and for unpaid tolls, and the number of official warnings given for each infringement type.
A person who receives an infringement may request an internal review. Victoria Police conducts the review and may decide to withdraw the infringement and issue an official warning in its place.
The numbers for official warnings do not necessarily correspond to the infringements issued during the period shown because an infringement may be issued in one time period and withdrawn in another time period.
Speeding categories
This data provides infringement numbers for each speeding category offence, for fixed digital cameras and mobile cameras, and the main highway system cameras in Victoria.
The data shows that most people exceed the speed limit by less than 10 km/h.
The ability for a driver to slow down sufficiently to avoid a crash with another vehicle or avoid an injury to a pedestrian, reduces as speed increases. In addition, increases in speed subject the body to greater physical force that can cause serious injury or death.
Why do we have red-light cameras?
