Rural Road Signage Project

January 10, 2012

New signs are in place at eight locations on Victoria's freeways and highways to reinforce the fact that speeding kills.

The signs display the message "High risk area, police enforcing speed" to notify motorists that if they exceed the speed limit, they will be caught and penalised. The signs provide coverage on every major route outbound from Melbourne and Geelong to Victoria's major rural centres.

The signs will complement the 50 electronic variable messaging signs that have been rolled out across Victoria since April 2011.

Motorists in rural and regional Victoria are over-represented in our road toll. These signs help get the message through to people driving on regional roads that one of the easiest ways to stay safe is to obey the speed limit.
