Victoria's oldest road safety camera sites are being upgraded to modern digital systems.

The new cameras will begin enforcing from March 2022. They are located at intersections across greater Melbourne and Geelong.

All new cameras have been rigorously assessed and tested. Electronic signs will notify motorists when the camera begins enforcing. Once activated, locations will also be listed on the camera locations (External link) page.

The Victorian Government has invested almost $7 million to renew and upgrade these cameras (formerly wet-film cameras). The upgrade will increase the capability, reliability and efficiency of our camera network. It is being delivered as part of Victoria’s Road Safety Strategy 2021-30 (External link).

Road safety cameras are one of the most effective ways to get motorists to slow down and to save lives.

Research by the Monash University Accident Research Centre shows that crashes resulting in death and injury are reduced by an average of 47 per cent at intersections where a camera is installed.
