Before a speeding fine is issued, the offence is scrutinised thoroughly by qualified independent officers and Victoria Police. The process is outlined on this page.

Victoria’s road safety cameras, both fixed and mobile, are tested regularly by independent officers to ensure accuracy of offence detection and the integrity of equipment.

The Office of the Road Safety Camera Commissioner was established in 2012 to increase transparency and enhance accountability of Victoria’s road safety camera system.

If you see a road safety camera flash and you are certain you were not speeding or driving against a red light or red arrow, do not panic, there are a couple of reasons why the camera may have flashed.
